The Bullet Journal Method | REVIEW

img_1116If you have no idea what a bullet journal is, google it – I dare you.

Then put it in your Pinterest search.

Or look up hashtag bulletjournal on Instagram.

If you are anything like me and lack any artistic ability or patience you will find yourself utterly confused.

If you are anything like me you are just trying to make the most of your time. There never seems to be enough time in your day. You’re constantly running from one obligation to the next and never feeling like you’re caught up.

You hear of this thing called a bullet journal and you think this is the answer to all your organization problems.

If you are anything like me, you find traditional planners or calendars do not work for you. You’ve tried them all. They don’t work. So you keep everything in your head and on random pieces of paper or sticky notes.

But everywhere you look for how to actually bulletjournal is met with insanely detailed trackers and daily/weekly/monthly spreads. How much time are you supposed to put into this? I thought this was supposed to make my life simpler. I don’t care to track my sleep.

Even going to the bulletjournal.com website does not seem to help. You just can’t get a grasp on it. How the fuck is this supposed to work??

The Bullet Journal Method explains exactly how the fuck this is supposed to work.

When I first heard about this book I completely dismissed it. What is this book going to tell me that the website doesn’t? I’ll probably be even more confused. If the internet couldn’t give me a visual assistance with this concept how was a couple hundred page book.

Man, I am so glad I was so wrong about this book.

Not only does it teach you the method behind the bullet journal concept. It teaches the reader about living intentionally and with a purpose.

The book is supposed to be geared to those new to bullet journaling or veterans. But I definitely think it would benefit those new to the system.

If the journey is the destination, then we must learn how to become better travelers.

What the book emphasizes doing what works for you, the reader. While one’s bullet journal is traditionally a notebook and traditional writing tool. That does not work for me. I am trying to be as paperless as possible. I keep my journal digitally, in my iPad… img_1120and it is still as simple as a traditional notebook. I am still at the beginning stages of my journal, but in my life, I do not feel the need to have a billion trackers. I just need a place to chronicle my thoughts and to-do list and it has been great.

I think everyone should bullet journal. Taking a few minutes out of your morning and before you go to bed at night to chronicle was you were able to accomplish and what needs to be done the next day its amazing for your headspace.

Bullet journaling is a great way to clear your head so you can focus on what is important to you. And just because you are keeping your schedule/to-do list/reminders in an analog fashion does not mean you can not use your digital tools.

I still use my Google calendar and my Apple reminders list.

Make the system work for you. Just because someone is using their bullet journal a certain way does not mean you have to use it the same way.

Read the book. Learn the system. Get your life and time back.
